Feminist Student Activist Collective

Founding of FSAC (Formerly WSAC)

The roots of the Feminist Student Activist Collective (Formerly the Women's Student Activist Collective) date back to 1891 with the establishment of the Young Women's Christian Association. Since 1940 the organization has been housed in Coffman Union. By the 1970s, the organization became most closely tied to feminist and anti-racist ideologies.

From 1975-1977 it contributed to the movement of establishing the student cultural centers. During the 1980s the organization became known as University Young Women. In 2002 it became known as the Women's Student Activist Collective.

Mission

The Feminist Student Activist Collective strives to empower women, transgender, and gender non-conforming people to create positive change in society. The Feminist Student Activist Collective has created a safe space on campus where people feel comfortable expressing their gender and sexual identities. It provides leadership opportunities for individuals who encounter barriers to leadership due to societal sexism, homophobia, transphobia and other related oppressions.

The Feminist Student Activist Collective strives to connect and build partnerships with student organizations as well as progressive community organizations in order to create a more socially just world.
