Founding of AMCC

Al-Madinah Cultural Center (AMCC) was initially known as the Al-Madinah Student Cultural Center and it was founded in June of 1999 in response to the growing number of Muslims attending the University of Minnesota. In December of 2002 the first Fast-a-thon was held and became an annual event due to its initial success. It has been growing in significance and size in subsequent years. The Fast-a-thon eventually earned AMCC its first Tony Diggs Excellence Award for hosting an outstanding event in 2008.

In April of 2003, the Al-Madinah Cultural Center presented the first Islam Awareness Week, a week-long event exemplifying its mission to bring recognition to the Islamic culture. In 2003, AMCC became known as one of the nine cultural centers of Coffman Memorial Union's culturally diverse second floor.

Mission

AMCC's mission seeks to create a better understanding and appreciation for the diverse culture of Islam through educational, social, and community activities here at the University of Minnesota.
